PADI Instructor Development Course The PADI Instructor training program is designed to be very flexible. To become a full PADI Instructor, officially called an Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI), candidates need to complete an Instructor Development Course,(IDC) and an Instructor exam, (IE). The IDC can be taken as a whole or split into an initial Assistant Instructor,(AI), course which is then followed, either later or straightaway, by an OWSI course. To qualify as an AI, candidates need to complete the AI course over approximately four days. At the end of this course there are some exams conducted by your Course Director.
