PADI OPEN WATER COURSE
The first proper diving qualification in the PADI system is ‘Open Water Diver’ and upon successful completion of this course you will be awarded either the PADI open water qualification (15 years or older) or the junior open water qualification (minimum age of 10). Completion of either of these courses will enable you to obtain air and equipment and go diving without having to pay extra for instructor supervision anywhere in the world.
The course is divided into three segments: SCUBA diving theory, confined water (pool) dives and 4 open water dives. Scuba Training Limited has very flexible scheduling for this course and it can be arranged to suit everyone’s timetable and budget.
Options
The most popular option is our personalised PADI Open Water course where it is possible to pick and choose suitable times for classes. These classes are run at weekends, evenings or daytimes, pretty much whenever required. Classes are small (maximum of 4 people) and the theory sessions take place at our premises at Fulham Palace Road. Pool classes are again small (maximum of 4 people) and take place in our 88 degree private pool in Putney. Lessons normally run for three hours and four lessons are usually needed to complete the course. Many people choose to do it all over one weekend. The personalised course can also be arranged on a one-to-one basis at an extra cost.
Executive courses are conducted for only two students on a single day with their own personal instructor. This is a self study option with the academic section being completed either Online - click on the PADI image above for a demonstration or to sign up and get started !!! Alternatively we can send out the DVD and manual. Courses run on either a Saturday or a Sunday during the following times: 9am-1pm (pool) & 2pm-6pm (classroom). These courses are ideal for students with time constraints and are usually best for people that are confident in a water environment and have snorkelled or completed a Discover Scuba session in the past. Cost £275 per person.
Another option is our standard course. The classes run on Thursday evenings. The theory takes place at 7pm at our premises at 204 Fulham Palace Road; afterwards we go to a public pool on the Kings Road in Chelsea, a few minutes away from the dive shop. We are usually back at the shop after the pool session by 10:30 p.m.. The course is run over 5 consecutive Thursdays.
The open water training can be done in one of several ways. These dives can be done in the UK or they can be done on one of our many trips abroad. It is also possible to do what is called a referral course where all the pool and theory work is done here but the open water training dives are done with a different school or instructor at a destination arranged by yourselves.
Whichever option you decide on, our experienced, internationally qualified, PADI instructors will take you through the essentials of SCUBA diving. There should be ample time to master all the skills, there is time built into the course schedules for extra practice. (However if you still need extra time in order to master all the skills you will need to arrange extra training sessions at further cost.)
While it is possible to self study we would recommend participating in our lectures as this is where people tend to get the maximum benefit of the classroom environment with discussions and Q&A sessions with our experienced PADI instructors and fellow class members - and of course making friends for life.
Costs
The cost of the courses includes your own manual/work book, Log book/pages when you do the dives, a certification card or referral certificate and the use of our modern gear for the pool work. Not included is suit hire for any open water dives, (gloves, boots & suit £10 a day for two days), or any entrance fees charged at some of the dive sites (no more than £5 - £10 a day).
